Faculty Grant Opportunities

Faculty affiliated with the CCCG may apply for grant opportunities that provide funding at various levels for research, classroom support, publication and publication support, and major projects that align with the mission and goals of the Center.

Faculty interested in funding opportunities at the Center should review the Center’s Faculty Funding Grant application page for information on guidelines, deadlines, and evaluation criteria. Questions may be directed to the Center’s Co-Director, Dr. Donald L. Stelluto, Jr.

Please note:
The Center’s capacity for faculty support grant awards in spring 2025 and for the 2025-2026 academic year has been impacted by the University of Notre Dame’s recent expenditure reduction program. Faculty are advised to coordinate with the Center’s Co-Director, Dr. Donald L. Stelluto, Jr., prior to starting the application process.

Grant Applications

Due to the University of Notre Dame’s current expenditure reduction program, qualifying faculty interested in applying for a faculty support grant in spring 2025 or during the 2025-2026 academic year should first contact the Center’s Co-Director, Dr. Donald L. Stelluto, Jr.

Deadlines

We offer three opportunities annually for funding with the following upcoming application deadlines:

  • Tuesday, May 20, 2025
  • Tuesday, September 16, 2025
  • Tuesday, January 13, 2025

Application Requirements

Applications for projects or initiatives that align with the mission and goals of the CCCG may be requested for the following:

  • faculty research
  • classroom support
  • faculty conference travel
  • publication and publication support
  • other major or minor academic projects

Eligibility

The Center welcomes applications for faculty support grants from CCCG-affiliated faculty in a range of disciplines and fields, as well as our current visiting scholars.

Grant Awards

The award of grants is a competitive process, funding amounts may vary, depending on the impact of the work to be funded, the quality of the proposal, the type of grant requested, other proposals submitted, total amount requested, funding from other sources, and financial need. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and grant awards are typically offered within two weeks after the established deadlines.

Online Application and Guidelines

The Faculty Support Grant applications are online and must include the following:

  • A brief abstract of the project or proposal for which you are seeking funding (approximately 150-250 words). Be sure to describe how funds awarded will advance your academic/professional interests and goals.
  • A project proposal or a full description of your project, including:
    • The research question/interests to be addressed or advanced with this funding
    • The significance of the project within your discipline or field
    • The relation of the project to the CCCG
    • Scholarly accomplishments/outputs/outcomes you expect to realize with this project
    • If this request is for student assistantships, an explanation of how the assigned student(s) will participate in the project.
  • A complete proposed budget worksheet, including all expenditures, full amounts, additional support funding awarded as well as being sought, and the total amount requested. Current, actual costs should be used. Applicants should avoid non-specific terms such as “miscellaneous expenditures” when identifying anticipated costs. CCCG grants may not be used for staff salaries/benefits or clerical support normally provided by academic departments.
  • A complete budget narrative explaining usage of the budget, alternatives, financial need, and contingency plans if not funded. If students will be funded as part of the proposed grant, the budget narrative must include an explanation of how the assigned student(s) will be involved in the research/project/activity funded in a manner that directly contributes to their intellectual engagement and formation.
  • A current copy of the applicant’s C.V.

Evaluation Criteria

The award of grants is a competitive process. All grant applications are evaluated according to qualitative criteria, including:

  • The impact of the work to be funded
  • The proposal’s alignment with the mission and values of the CCCG
  • The overall quality of the proposal
  • The type of grant requested
  • The quality and number of other proposals submitted
  • The total amount requested
  • Funding is being sought or obtained from other sources
  • Financial need
