The Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government is proud to introduce its Fall 2025 Tocqueville Fellows. Selected through a competitive application process, the cohort is made up of 25 talented Notre Dame undergraduates from various programs of study.
Along with 14 returning fellows, 11 new students will join the fellowship this fall. Two students, Elizabeth Borowiak (’26) and Michael Canady (’26), were selected to serve as “Senior Tocqueville Fellows” during the entire 2025-2026 academic year. In this role, they will help plan fellowship events and social activities, and mentor younger students in the cohort.
Crucial to the fellowship’s mission of promoting free inquiry and civil dialogue, the fellows come from a variety of backgrounds and ideological perspectives. They self-identify as conservative, liberal, and undecided, and hold leadership positions in a wide range of campus organizations: Right to Life, The Observer, The Irish Rover, ND Votes, and the Transformational Leaders Program, among many others. Despite their differences, they share intellectual curiosity, leadership potential, and a desire to engage in serious discussion about pressing issues of politics, culture, economics, law, and religion.
This semester, the fellows will have the opportunity to meet privately with a number of prominent academics and leaders, including Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Princeton Professor Steve Macedo, and Washington Post columnist George Will. The fellows will also participate in a weekend discussion colloquium on Abundance, a new book by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson, as well as other discussion-based events and social gatherings.
