Religious Liberty and the Am Founding Book Cover

NOTE: This event will take place in Washington DC.

The American Enterprise Institute will host a conversation about CCCG Director Phillip Muñoz's new book Religious Liberty and the American Founding: Natural Rights and the Original Meanings of the First Amendment Religion Clauses.

What did the founders mean when they guaranteed the right to freedom of religion? In his new book, Religious Liberty and the American Founding: Natural Rights and the Original Meanings of the First Amendment Religion Clauses (University of Chicago Press, 2022), CCCG Director Vincent Phillip Muñoz argues that the American founding generation understood religious liberty quite differently from current law, with policy implications that don’t square with today’s legal definitions.

Join AEI’s William Haun and John Yoo for a discussion with Dr. Muñoz about how studying the founders’ interpretation of natural law should shape our understanding of First Amendment rights today.

RSVP for in-person attendance here. If you are unable to attend in-person, the event will be streamed live here. After the event concludes, a full video will be posted by AEI within 24 hours. More information is available on the AEI website.

As of October 26, this page has been updated to reflect changes to event details.
